The relation of seizure with Cerebral palsy

It is quite known that cerebral palsy is found in infants and majorly occurs before the birth of child i.e. during pregnancy, at the time of the birth and rarely up to the age of three years. This usually leads to impairment of body movements or abnormality in motor system. In fact, some associated disorders can also be experienced by some like seizures, poor development of intellectual abilities.

It is seen that in case of cerebral palsy, some discover mild intellectual impairment, some have severe or moderate intellectual impairment and other might be intellectually normal. Although it is found that intellectual, impairment is most common among children with Spastic quadriplegia.

Seizure found in cerebral palsy usually occurs when there is some over-activity or misdirected activity of electricity in the brain. The people with seizures usually have a much more variable rate of exhibiting symptoms.
The seizure in case of cerebral palsy occurs when the brains normal pattern of activity pattern is disrupted due to the uncontrolled burst of electricity and it is found in almost half of the patients with cerebral palsy.

The seizures, which occur persistently without any direct and straight trigger such as a fever, falls under epilepsy usually the seizures in case of cerebral palsy are tonic-clonic or partial. Both types of seizures can be very disturbing and disconcerting both for patients who have them and their family members. The symptoms of seizures in cerebral palsy can be a great trouble in childhood.

One sort of seizure is Tonic-clonic seizures. It is quite severe. It usually spreads throughout the brain. It further leads the patient to cry out and in some cases, the patient even loses complete control over bladder. Patient cries out suddenly and losses consciousness, a passing out or fainting may happen.

Once the seizure occurs and the person regains consciousness he is not aware or has no memory of the seizure occurring. Whereas in partial seizure the patient might experience it or is constrained to one part of the brain. Partial seizure may fall into two different categories. It could be simple or complex.

In the simple partial seizure the patient, tend to experience difficulties like numbness in different portions of the body whereas in complex partial seizure the patient might experience problems like difficulty in understanding things or they get confused easily and staggering. It is also seen the seizure patient usually becomes forgetful and may suddenly walk strangely and can experience hallucination at the same time.It is also important to diagnose cerebral palsy or the seizure order and for that very purpose EEG exam should be given.

Another good way to diagnose seizures in cerebral palsy is to get it diagnosed by some experienced doctor who may keenly observe for the symptoms like pedaling motion off the legs or lip smacking. Although it is found that it is hard to diagnose it in children and new born so if you suspect that your child might have cerebral palsy and seizures then take him to an experienced doctor for thorough check up today only.
